When Kerala takes on Punjab Down Under

Grassroots to Big Bash, Indian-origin players have become part of Australia’s cricket fabric

Imagine ‘Kerala’ taking on ‘Punjab’ in Brisbane, somewhere close to the historic Gabba, a hallowed ground of Australian cricket for nearly a century.
Unusual as it sounds, it could soon be reality. Mulgrave Combined CA, one of Queensland’s top clubs, has a ‘Punjab’ side playing in the second division of the state league and ‘Kerala’ in the third. This reflects the growing influence of the Indian community in Australia and their deep love for cricket, which goes beyond cheering for the Men in Blue when they play Down Under.
